Abstract

On two occasions, a woman with temporal arteritis developed tongue cyanosis and numbness shortly after the administration of ergotamine tartrate. Partial necrosis of the tongue resulted. Presumably, the lingual artery compromise, frequently present in temporal arteritis, was made symptomatic by the vasoconstrictive action of ergotamine tartrate.
